Rodney King Dead in the Pool



"LOS ANGELES, - Rodney King (47), is beaten up by police in 1992 that sparked race riots in Los Angeles, United States, was found dead in the pool on Sunday (6/17/2012) morning local time."

Police officers Rialto, California, Captain Randy Deanda told AFP points out, King was found "unresponsive" at the bottom of the swimming pool and pronounced dead at a local health center shortly afterwards, at 6.11.

King became a symbol of racial tensions in the U.S. after being beaten by Los Angeles police. The beating was caught on camera. Police officers involved were released on 29 April 1992, triggering rioting for days that took the lives.

When the 20th anniversary of the riots that killed more than 50 people, the King warned that racism must continue to be opposed. "There will always be different kinds of racism. However, it's up to how each individual in this country to look back and see all the success we have achieved so far," said King told CNN.

When asked about his feelings towards the police who beat him, he said, "I have forgiven them, because America has forgiven me in many ways and gave me many opportunities. I really appreciate the police."

King adds, "You can have a second chance, and I have been given a second chance."
